JOÜK U6 SATURDAY FUTSAL SCRIMMAGES

JOÜK’s Saturday U6 Scrimmages have been a big hit this season!  Our enthusiastic 5 and 6 year olds met up with teams from Morelia Soccer Academy and Stage 10 FC, for a fun first taste of competition.

Our most recent scrimmage kicked off with JOÜK’s Elvin at pivot, Nico at right ala, Alex at left ala, and Arvin at fixo.

This quartet put the pressure on their opponents right from kickoff, in a tight back-and-forth game that saw neither team scoring until late in the first half.

Then, Nico received a swift pass from Arvin from the right. He dribbled down the sideline with defenders in hot pursuit, looking up in time to see an opportunity for a shot.

It was a tight angle from the far right side, but the goal was open. Nico struck the ball hard with his right instep, almost losing his balance, yet keeping his gaze firmly affixed on the ball as it hit the back of the net near the far post. Golazo!

Stage 10 FC woke up, switching their attack by passing the ball cross-court to their alas.

JOÜK scrambled to respond as their opponent attacked their weak side. Luckily, Arvin at fixo realized the danger and quickly tackled the attacker, recovering the ball and clearing it from our defensive third.

Arvin went on to do this all game—truly a force to be reckoned with on defense!

Morelia Soccer Academy stepped in, starting a battle at mid-court for possession of the ball. Both teams scrambled to attack and then get back on defense, with neither managing to dominate.

Then, a breakthrough: Elvin, playing at pivot, recovered the ball, looked up, and and immediately charged forward toward the opponent’s goal. He looked confident on his feet as he dribbled and feinted past the defenders, using his quick thinking and clever ball mastery skills to find an opening.

A shot on goal, a block, and…Elvin recovered the ball! He refused to give up, took aim again, and ZINGED the ball into the back of the net. GOLAZO!!

Congratulations to all three teams for games well played and an excellent attitude of fun and learning all around.  Thanks to all the parents for your support—and a special thank you to Kan, Elvin’s dad, for refereeing, and Anton, Alex’s dad, for taking photos.

We hope to meet up again soon for more scrimmages, as our growing U6 Team trains to compete in its first official tournament this fall.
