What Is Futsal?

Learn more about this great sport and why it’s ideal for youth players

Futsal is a fun, fast-paced soccer-like sport, with some major differences from regular soccer:

  • It has 5 players per team, not 11.

  • It’s played on a small, flat court (about basketball court size), instead of a big grass field.

  • A futsal ball is smaller, heavier and less bouncy than a traditional soccer ball.

  • Futsal can be played indoors or outdoors.

Since futsal combines soccer’s basic idea with basketball’s small teams and quick, exciting pace, youth soccer players really grow when they start playing the sport.

⬅️ The joy of mastering new moves

With futsal, skills quickly sharpen, since players touch the ball about six times more than in an outdoor soccer game on a big field.

To control the heavier, smaller ball, they develop excellent ball control, speed, and agility. They get braver when facing defense–it’s right there in front of them in a small space!

Futsal demands mental skills too: the game changes quickly, so players must think fast and be creative.

In fact, many of the world’s best soccer players developed their beautiful dribbles, accuracy, and creativity playing futsal. That’s why it’s an integral part of our JOÜK and Centaurus FC’s training.
